Greetings!
Yesterday, President Obama held a bi-partisan summit on healthcare and presented a plan for honest reform to members of both parties.
His plan will supply 31 million uninsured Americans with healthcare and provide tax credits for millions of Americans who need assistance in acquiring insurance. No longer will insurance companies be allowed to discriminate against those with pre-existing conditions, raise your rates, or stop your coverage if you become sick.
Not only will the plan put forward by President Obama lower premiums, but it will create a Health Insurance Rate Authority to provide oversight at the Federal level to prevent insurance companies from drastically raising their rates in order to line their pockets with your hard earned money.
Republicans admit that their constituents are desperate for change. It’s time to ask: whose side are you on-ours or the insurance company’s? It’s time to end the delays and obstructionist tactics. Republicans have been stalling, while Americans are literally dying for better health care. We’re counting on you to send the message that we won’t stop fighting-Americans are suffering enough already! Good health care should be a basic right.
Regardless of polls, election results or reality, Republicans seem to feel they have a mandate, even when they’re in the minority! Politics always come first to these folks. Sadly, the Republican’s only goal is to deny any kind of accomplishment by President Obama. That’s not governing. They forget that we’re all in this together: their job is to make America a healthy, strong nation. They need to get on board or get out of the way. Whether or not it’s a Democratic idea or a Republican idea, Americans deserve quality healthcare-let’s make it happen!
Sincerely,
Jim Schiebel, Chair
