This is a picture of our new campaign bumper sticker.

I am “Your Voice” for Congress if you believe in the following humane ideals:

1) Violence should never be used at a foreign (or domestic) policy tool.
2) Our troops should not only be withdrawn from Iraq and Afghanistan, but from hundreds of bases all over the world.
3) George Bush and Dick Cheney must be impeached to restore some semblance of the rule of law to America and to restrain future Executives.
4) All “free” trade agreements should be repealed and instead, “fair” trade must be practiced so every worker in the world can earn a livable wage. Read the rest of this entry »

Our nation’s self-respect demands impeachment

I wept to see Sami al Haj embrace his young son for the first time after six years in Guantanamo prison. Sami al Haj, a Sudanese news cameraman, was seized in Pakistan while working for al Jazeera News. He was imprisoned, tortured and brutalized by Americans while there. Like most prisoners held at Guantanamo, al Haj was never tried or charged.

After his release, Sami al Haj arrived in Sudan and was immediately rushed to a hospital by ambulance, weakened by his 438-day hunger strike in Guantanamo. His message to our government: “Torture does not stop terrorism, torture is terrorism.”

The U.S. government evidence against him says, “He was trained in the use of cameras by al Jazeera News.”

The Great Oil Swindle

The Commodity Futures and Trading Commission (CFTC) is investigating trading in oil futures to determine whether the surge in prices to record levels is the result of manipulation or fraud. Now the billions of dollars they’re getting from the Fed is being diverted into commodities which is destabilizing the world economy; driving gas prices to the moon and triggering food riots across the planet. McCain (Mis)Speaks

Last fall was a great time for official optimism when it came to Iraq. The military “metrics” looked ever better and, as had happened at crucial moments in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007, Bush administration and military statements turned practically peachy with the blush of “success.” Progress was announced (repeatedly). Corners were once again about to be turned. Tipping points were on the absolute verge of being reached. “I’ve never been more optimistic than I am right now with the progress we’ve made in Iraq,” effused Maj. Gen. Rick Lynch, commander of the 3rd Infantry Division, late that October. Lt. Col. Val Keaveny, 3rd Batallion, 509th infantry, offered this over-the-top mixed metaphor: “[Iraqis] are fed up with fear. Once they hit that tipping point, they’re fed up, they come to realize we truly do provide them better hope for the future. What we’re seeing now is the beginning of a snowball.” That same month, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Adm. Mike Mullen, citing a butcher in the suburbs of Baghdad who had seen his business rise from selling one sheep a week to one a day, said: “I don’t want to overly state it… but it’s starting to happen.” Read the rest of this entry »
